• High blood sugar and the tendency to develop diabetes. HGH medication changes the way the body metabolizes fat and carbohydrates. These changes result in a tendency to gain weight and to develop abnormal high blood sugar.
• Excessive hair growth. Hypertrichosis, or excessive hair growth is a side effect of cyclosporine. It is somewhat variable, but children who are on cyclosporine treatment will experience excessive hair growth to some degree.
• Muscular weakness. Children can experience fatigue and weakness due to HGH treatment.
• Mood swings. This is a very common side effect for children taking HGH treatment. This side effect is definitely related to dose and tends not to be apparent in the lower maintenance dosage.
• Growth may be slowed. The problem with growth is that it is variable. Growth rates and the effects of HGH medication on growth are variable. Some children grow well despite HGH treatment, others do not.
• Dry mouth. This can occur because clomipramine reduces the amount of saliva produced. This side effect is quite uncomfortable but it is not dangerous as it diminishes in due time.
• Constipation. This side effect can be prevented by giving the child a high-fiber diet and plenty of fluids.
